06 Dec 5 ways to transform your life
The best salespeople work on every area of their lives, not just their sales skills. Izan Coomonte from StubHub explains.
In early May 2019, Sales Confidence staged another one of its exclusive live events for individual contributors. We were thrilled to welcome 4 of London’s rising stars of SaaS sales to speak at our event, held at Deliveroo. Based on their talks, we’ve put together some articles. Even if you couldn’t be with us, you can still get inspired.
It was brilliant to welcome Izan Coomonte to the stage at Deliveroo HQ. Izan (pronounced Ethan) is Senior Business Development Manager for EMEA at StubHub, owned by eBay. He’s an exceptionally good salesperson, but that’s not what he wanted to talk to the Sales Confidence audience about.
‘I want to talk about my experiences investing in personal development and personal coaching. It has literally transformed every single area of my life.’
Izan then shared with us five pieces of advice based on these experiences.
1 — Know your values
Values are something that everyone talks about and we think we know what they are, but how well do you really know your values?
If you want to know what your values truly are, ask yourself a follow-up question.
‘What are the most important moments in your life? Then, what values were you honouring in those moments?’
When you understand the values that genuinely drive you, rather than what you think they ought to be, you make better decisions.
2 — Build a strategic year plan
Most salespeople have plans that they follow; business plans, sales plans and more. But what about outside of work?
To get what you want from every area of your life, build a strategic plan for your year, which you will follow relentlessly, day after day, week after week, to get where you want to go.
As well as objectives around finance and health, think about your emotional goals. How do you want to feel in a year’s time? What milestones do you need to hit to experience those feelings?
3 — Have something crazy in your plan
When you’re making your strategic year plan, make sure there is something in there that challenges you and takes you out of your comfort zone.
For example, Izan gave up drinking coffee for a week, which is pretty difficult for a coffee addict. He also went on a 10-day silent meditation retreat!
4 — Build rapport with people
Relationships are the way to a better life. Build rapport with people when you meet them and get to know the people you already know even better. Try asking someone you know these five questions:
· What are the three most important things in your relationship with me?
· How do you know when I’m not respecting those things that are important for you?
· What am I doing exactly that does not respect those important things?
· What can I do to improve to respect those three things?
· How can I help you to improve in your life?
It helps create a very pure relationship.
5 — Take cold showers
OK, this one isn’t for everyone, but Izan wants you to hear him out.
Every day, take a cold shower. For starters, it’s good for the skin. Plus, it wakes you up like nothing else.
While you’re in your freezing cold shower, recite the principles of your life; the things you truly believe in that are important to you.
You’ll soon see your life start to change!
How about you?
Thanks to Izan for that fantastic, unique talk. Now we need to know what you think. What have you done to transform your life? What do you recommend everybody try if they want to improve personally?
